Imaging

The MRC Imaging Database manages the MRC's daily operations and the digitization of its physical holdings which include 161,000 35mm and lantern slides, and 12,000 photographic prints and negatives. Based on imaging orders and slide circulation, this database grows at a rate of 300 records per month. For our users, the Imaging database provides same-day or next-day access to images. more

Video Collection

Comprising nearly 400 titles, this fully-functional library automation system (powered by Koha) lets users search and browse our video collection, and for certain titles, stream a digital version of the video over the internet. Videos are also circulated using this database, and users can reserve physical copies for pickup or placement in their mailbox. Access is restricted to on-campus only. more

Internet Directory

MRC Staffmembers maintain an account with del.icio.us, which is a social bookmarking website. Based on the upcoming class schedules and syllabi, the MRC actively researches the internet for sites that are useful for preparing images for departmental courses, and posts links to this account. The MRC's account page can be browsed here, or if you have a del.icio.us account, add the user vsmrc to your network. more


Cataloging

The MRC Cataloging Database, powered by VCat, serves as the cataloging tool for the MRC's digital library projects. As of February 2008, this database comprises of 500 researched and verified visual work records, and through targeted cataloging efforts, is expanding at a rate of 150 records per month. more

ARTstor [link]

ARTstor is a digital subscription database provided by UB Libraries, currently comprising more than 700,000 images of works of art. ARTstor expands regularly, with several Museum / University collections added each year. Presently, 95 percent of the images in artstor are available for JPEG download for use in PowerPoint or Keynote. more

The Media Resource Center digitizes all sorts of materials for use in courses — audio, static and moving images, and documents, and creates secured websites to share them. more
