ACSAA Color Slide Project
A collection of 15,000 high quality color slides available for purchase, featuring art and architecture of India, Nepal, Tibet, Burma, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

AICT (Art Images for College Teaching)
A free-use image resource for educational purposes, covering Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, 18th-20th Century, and Non-Western art.

American Memory
A Library of Congress collection with more than 7 million digital items pertaining to the history and culture of the United States — including art, architecture, and many other subjects.

AMICO (Art Museum Image Consortium)
A collaboration of museums and other art collections from around the world, this is a vast image collection for educational use.

Archivision
An image resource for architecture, landscapes, public art, and design.  For slide purchase, there is a Commercial Archive containing over 30,000 images.  For educational use, there is an Educational Archive which holds over 50,000 images.

ArchNet
An online resource and community for architects, planners, urban designers, landscape architects, interior designers, and students, with special focus given to the Islamic world.

Artcyclopedia:  The Fine Art Searh Engine
A search engine for "museum-quality" artwork, with over 125,000 images to be explored.

Art on File
A compilation of art image projects from all over the world, this site enables the purchase and/or downloading of images to be used by design professionals and for educational purposes.

Art History Resources on the Web
A comprehensive survey of art history images from ancient times to modern day.  Also included are links to research resources, art museums and galleries by country, online journals, exhibits, and university art departments.  Time periods are divided into countries, cultures, and styles.

Artserve
A compilation of art and architecture images, concentrating on the Mediterranean Basin and Japan.

Links to image collections, noteworthy art and architecture libraries, online art journals, a virtual ceramics exhibit, and more can be found here.

Asian Arts
Covering all areas of Asian art, this is an online journal focusing on research and exhibitions of Asian art.

Bodleian Library - University of Oxford
Roughly one thousand images of manuscripts owned by the University of Oxford can be found here.  The list of manuscripts is arranged by century (beginning as early as the 11th) and country of origin.

China the Beautiful
A diverse collection of sites focusing on a variety of Chinese topics, such as Chinese paintings and other graphics arts, as well as online art museums and galleries in China.

Clearinghouse of Image Databases
Initiated and hosted by the University of Arizona, this is an online directory of image databases designed to be used by librarians, archivists, database administrators, metadata specialists, digital database developers, or anyone working with imaging technology.

Connecticut College's Wetmore Print Collection
A digital print gallery containing Rembrandt's etchings, Durer's woodcuts and engravings, and an assortment of Japanese woodcuts.  A compilation of USA prints will soon be added to the collection.

Digital Librarian: Art
"A librarian's choice of the best of the Web", this is an impressive list of art-related links.

George Eastman House
This is a site devoted to the George Eastman House (International Museum of Photography and Film) in Rochester, NY.  Information about the collections, the building, and its facilities are available, and various online photography image collections can be accessed and viewed.

Kyoto National Museum
This site features the Kyoto National Museum's (in Kyoto, Japan) collection, with many digitized images for viewing.  Genres included are: archeology, ceramics, sculpture, painting, calligraphy, lacquerware, textiles, and metalwork.

National Museum of American Art
Part of the Smithsonian Institution, this site has an extensive list of online exhibitions, a search engine to search the Museum's digitized art collection of American Art, over 14,000 images to browse by subject, and a link to the Renwick Gallery (Center for American Crafts).

The New York Public Library:  Picture Collection Online
An image resource containing 30,000 images from books, magazines, newspapers, and original prints, postcards, and photographs.  Topics covered vary widely, from African-Americans to Dragons to New York City to Umbrellas and Parasols.

SILS Art Image Database
A research project initiated by the University of Michigan, containing art, architectural, and museum object images from four sources: the University of Michigan Museum of Art, Kelsey Museum of Archeology, Slide and Photograph Collection, Department of the History of Art, and the Los Angeles Chicano Murals Collection.  Users can browse the database by artist, title, artist nationality, date, medium, or subject.

S * P * I * R * O
This is the visual online public access catalog to the 35mm slide collection of the Architecture Visual Resources Library (AVRL) at the University of California at Berkeley. The collection holds over 250,000 slides and 15,000 photographs. 

University of Michigan Museum of Art
A homepage for the University of Michigan Museum of Art, this site enables access to a number of online exhibitions, collection browsing, and provides news about past, current, and future exhibits.

University of Virginia, Daguerreotype site
Numerous scanned images of daguerreotypes, as well as information regarding how they’re made, when they originated, and their unique qualities.

Web Gallery of Art
A virtual gallery containing over 11,600 images of European sculptures and paintings created between 1150 and 1800.  Many images are accompanied by commentary, and works by major artists are complemented by the artist's biography.  Fifteen different guided tours are available to take, each with its own area of focus.

WebMuseum!
Initiated in 1994, this site's image collections focus on the work of Paul Cezanne, Medieval Art, and Famous Artwork (information and images pertaining to an assortment of time periods and movements, beginning with Gothic Painting and moving through to the 20th century).  Visitors may even take a virtual tour of Paris if they wish.

World Art Treasures
A collection of images from  many different artists, time periods, and geographic locations.  Most categories are accompanied by an essay and/or artist biography.
