Work Study Option

Students who qualify for federal work study may work as a lab assistant for $7.50/hour. Monitors earning work study must take on more responsibilities than volunteers and are expected to have a working knowledge of the Macintosh and graphics applications.

The amount of your work study award is for the entire academic year, ending June 30. You can work as many hours as your work study amount will permit, up to 20 hours per week. Your award must last through the end of a given semester. A $1000 award is good for about 9 hours a week for one semeseter, or 5 hours a week for fall & spring semesters. Note: You may not be scheduled for more than a 6 hour shift at a time.

Occasionally, award increase are granted after the fall semester. See the UB Federal Workstudy Program site.

There is a six-week delay from the date the first time sheet is submitted until the first check is received.

Requirements

All requirements for filing initial forms and time sheets must be strictly followed, or payment cannot be guaranteed. Please refer to the information posted on the UB Federal Workstudy Program site. Make special note of the following:

1. Student's must have received their Federal Workstudy Appointment Form before accepting a position. The form must be signed and submitted before it expires to 418 Crofts Hall, no later than 3 days from the beginning day of work. Bring a copy of the form for the lab supervisor to keep.

2. State and federal tax forms and the I-9 form must filled out and submitted to 418 Crofts Hall no later than 3 days from the beginning day of work. Forms are available online, and help is available from Elaine in the Art office.

3. Workstudy Online Time-sheets must be filled out and submitted on the last day of each pay period. The payroll calendar is available through the UB Federal Workstudy Program site. Late time-sheets will not be approved.
