Work Study Option Students who qualify for federal work study may work as a lab assistant for $7.50/hour. Monitors earning work study must take on more responsibilities than volunteers and are expected to have a working knowledge of the Macintosh and graphics applications. The amount of your work study award is for the entire academic year, ending June 30. You can work as many hours as your work study amount will permit, up to 20 hours per week. Your award must last through the end of a given semester. A $1000 award is good for about 9 hours a week for one semeseter, or 5 hours a week for fall & spring semesters. Note: You may not be scheduled for more than a 6 hour shift at a time. Occasionally, award increase are granted after the fall semester. See the UB Federal Workstudy Program site. There is a six-week delay from the date the first time sheet is submitted until the first check is received.
