AHI 548 - History of Photography

This course is a survey of the development of the medium of photography from 1839 to the present. Lectures will trace the major categories of subject matter from an art historical perspective, examining various societal conditions that either influenced photography or were themselves influenced by photography. In particular, lectures will discuss the nature of various photographic styles and movements, the reasons for their development as well as comparisons with other art media, with emphasis placed upon the contributions of individual photographers. Class meets twice a week and is a 3 credit course.
