M.A. Art History

Admission Requirements to the M.A. Program in Art History

In addition to submitting the online application form, the applicant must send the following supplemental materials directly to:

Director of Graduate Studies/ Art History M.A. Program
Department of Visual Studies,
202 CFA, UB North Campus,
Buffalo, NY 14260-6010.

  1. three letters of reference from former professors or professionals, attesting to level of maturity and intellectual capability.
    > Download Waiver of Right of Access form.
  2. transcripts of all college-level courses and proof of graduation with a B.A. degree or equivalent. In most circumstances, a 3.0 GPA is required for admission. Graduate Record Examination scores may be included but are optional.
  3. a writing sample (e.g. a paper submitted for an undergraduate course, preferably on an art history topic).
  4. a statement of intent which articulates the following: your preparation, motivation, and expectations for graduate study; areas of interest within the field and/or interdisciplinary pursuits; and career goals.

Application deadlines

Applications for admission to the Spring 2007 semester must be received by October 1, 2006. Application for admission to the Fall 2007 semester is Feb. 1, 2007. Late applications for fall admission will be accepted on an ongoing basis until May 1.
